The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) instrument is currently a mature and widely used analytical instrument that has undertaken numerous important analysis and detection tasks in laboratories, particularly those using quadrupole mass spectrometry. However, with the worsening environmental pollution and frequent occurrences of environmental emergencies such as chemical leaks and fires, there is an increasing demand for on-site rapid detection.

For on-site monitoring, traditional laboratory GC-MS instruments are not suitable due to their large and heavy size, poor timeliness, harsh operating conditions for turbo molecular pumps, and sensitivity to vibrations.

Firstly, laboratory GC-MS instruments are often bulky and heavy, making them inconvenient for carrying and mobility. On-site detection requires instruments that can be easily transported to different sampling points for analysis.

Secondly, laboratory GC-MS instruments have long response times and cannot meet the requirements of rapid on-site detection. On-site monitoring requires obtaining results quickly in order to take necessary actions promptly.

Moreover, the use of turbo molecular pumps in laboratory GC-MS instruments requires stringent conditions and is sensitive to the surrounding environment. On-site environments may contain dust, humidity, and other unfavorable factors, which increase the difficulties in maintenance and operation.

Therefore, portable GC-MS instruments or other on-site analysis devices are being developed and utilized to meet the demands of on-site rapid detection.
